Access Statement for the Lake
Introduction
Richard and Carol Wyatt are the proprietors of this stone built house now called the 'Lake'. Run by their family for over 45 years as an Hotel, they now offer Guest accommodation from 2009. The house has 10 rooms, all with shower/w.c. ensuite on the 1st floor, the new wing has 2 levels. 4 x Ground floor rooms and 4 x 1st floor rooms. We have a cottage with a further 2 guest rooms. We provide overnight accommodation and full English or Continental Breakfast.
Pre-Arrival
• Contact can be made by telephone and e-mail. At present, there is no facility to book online.
• If needed size 16 fonts can be requested for printed items - this may be in a simple format without pictures available in normal publications.
• Public transport (bus) is 5 minutes walking distance. Nearest Town ( Ventnor ) is 1/2 mile and is approx 20 minutes walking time.
• Taxis are usually freely available.
• Hire equipment of all kinds are available. Reference Isle of Wight website or local business directory available on request.
Arrival & Car Parking Facilities
• There is a parking space for every room in our private car parks. There are only 2 reserved spaces available.
• There is a drop off point exactly outside the front door entrance.
The main car park is at the bottom of the garden reached by road a further distance of 100 yards.
• The entrance to the House is tarmac.
• Rear access to vehicle is available once parked.
• Porterage is offered from car at main entrance to room.
• The surface from main car park at rear is gravel and inclined fairly gently. The path is inclined and well lit at night.
There is an alternate stepped way, which is steep. also well lit at night. This car park would not suit anyone with a severe walking disability.
This is catered for in a reserved car space adjacent to entrance.
Main Entrance, Reception
• There are 3 Steps to the wide main entrance. A hand rail at either side for assistance.
This door is normally open from 7a.m. until 10.pm a front door key is provided with room key for access out of these hours.
• Coir doormats to a white ceramic tiled floor in the porch one step through glass paneled self-closing door into reception.
• The reception area is well lit naturally during the day and subdued lighting at night. There is seating and a pen available.
• Short tufted carpet in reception area
• Large doors natural wood contrast with white door frames and skirting boards.
Public Areas - Hall, Stairs, Landing, Corridors etc
• The reception/hall has a rising staircase to 1st floor bedrooms. 17 steps carpeted with short pile. Bannister once side - hand rail the other. The corridor in main house is well lit and has a clear glass self closing fire door midway.
Public Areas - Sitting room, lounges, lobbies etc
• Bar lounge is reached directly from reception hall. 8 moveable chairs and 4 static sofas provide seating. Hardwood Floor.
• Main lounge reached direct from reception hall varied moveable and non-moveable furniture. Rug carpet over hardwood floor.
• TV lounge reached by door from main lounge, various non-moveable furniture.
• Sun Lounge reached from main lounge by clear glass door over threshold step - colour contrasting.
Public WCs
• Public w.c. Situated in restaurant area. Single door to large space with standard sanitary fittings.
Restaurant / Dining Room.
• Restaurant / Dining Room has seating for 50 people with moveable chairs and tables. On level carpeted ground.
• Well lit by natural and fixed overhead lighting.
• Mix of self-service (buffet) and table waitress/waiter service.
Bedrooms
• All rooms have an ensuite. Most rooms have walk in shower. In the main house 2 rooms have baths
• The rooms have either a double bed (4'6) or twins beds (3')
• The fire alarm is a bell ringing. Each rooms has an individual ringer alarm
• There are TVs in all bedrooms.
• The flooring is carpeted throughout.
• We would be happy to print any of our literature or notices in large print if requested.
• The entrance to the bedroom is level (no steps or ramps).
• Staff assistance/familiarization tour - is it offered on request
• All our pillows and bedding are non allergy.
Bathroom, Shower-room & WC Ensuite
• All ensuite have only standard sanitary fittings
• Ground floor rooms ensuite shower have grab handles in cubicle
• Flooring is either non-slip laminate, carpet or non slip ceramic tiles
• Non-slip mats are provided in all baths and shower
Grounds and Gardens
• The garden is an uneven nature
• Steep lawn surface
• Flat areas for walking
• There is seating and loungers for relaxing
