location to visit. Dazzling landscapes blend with natural beauty all around

The car ferry breaks that we do can be taken from Portsmouth, Lymington or Southampton. Ferry crossings can be booked by the Lake at the time of reservation. Ventnor on the IOW - This lovely old town is built on a one- in- four incline. Originally a Victorian health spa, it has a great crescent shaped waterfront with half a dozen eating places. The Botanic Gardens are a must - 22 acres! Bonchurch is on the east side of Ventnor and about 15-20 minute walk in to town. Bonchurch on the Isle of Wight is a gem. Almost unchanged for centuries, this sleepy seaside village Bonchurch.com with its famous duckpond attracts visitors throughout the year. We have a very old Norman church and also a larger one, very popular for weddings. A Pub, Post office and Garage make sure this village is very much alive, although it might look different at 8 o’clock at night in the Winter! Of all the isle of Wight Hotels, there is only one Hotel in Bonchurch. Nearly all the accommodation for holidays or short breaks or just a place to stay, is in guest accommodation or Guest Houses. There is a lot of confusion over the difference between a four star hotel and four star guest accommodation. The Lake is not an Hotel, it just offers bed & breakfast. In the old days, it would be called a Bed & breakfast Hotel, but now we are called guest accommodation and our star rating is based on this term. For a clearer idea of the difference in Hotels and Guest Accommodation try the Lake.
Guest House is a very old fashioned term for accommodation. It conjures an images from the past and we at the Lake will offer all the things you will get in a guest house and so much more - all at a better price. Bed & breakfast in Ventnor has never had so much choice. But bed & breakfast Ventnor needn't be just that. You can get a good breakfast and a good bed just a few minutes walk away in Bonchurch at the Lake. We find ourselves of being in a position of being the only dog friendly place to stay in Bonchuch on the IOW. We have always accommodated dogs at the Lake on the IOW. Quality Isle of Wight Dog friendly place are hard to find and we have many returning customers with their dogs. We have 4 ground floor rooms that are ideal for guests with dogs. Our beach in Bonchurch is only 400 yards down the road and many walks can be taken from our grounds. A dog friendly isle of wight hotel is a good term to find accommodation. It well may find the Lake which is dog friendly b&b accommodation We do make a charge for our dog friendly accommodation. The term Pet friendly is sometimes used as well when searching for Hotels that take dogs or pets. For a dog friendly place to stay on the Isle of Wight, look no further than the Lake.
Special deals are becoming part of the Holiday vocabulary. We can offer all the same deals as Hotels on the IOW. Here at the Lake we try and keep a value for money policy on all our tariffs. These special deals and short breaks are very dependant on the car ferry companies offering special deals or special offers on the car ferry. Some holidaymakers are not sure where to stay on the Isle of Wight but have heard the name Shanklin, or Shanklin Hotels. Bonchurch is only 3 miles from Shanklin and offers the same sort of accommodation, but in a much lower key way. Shanklin is a much bigger, busier and brasher resort than Bonchurch. Without mentioning the word Wight, there are a host of spelling errors when searching for accommodation or is it accomodation or acommodation, or even accommadation! The word Isle can be wrong too with Ilse being used instead of Isle. Hotel or Hotels are some of the words that are never spelt wrongly thank goddness. Of course Wight is another matter - see below! Anway, spellings don't really matter - everyone is still looking for the same place and that can be found at the Lake.

There are a good many more variations. European visitors normally refer to 'The Island of Wight'. One very popular abbreviation is IOW. This IOW can be found whenever a short reference is needed and a lot of Islanders use this IOW when they use it as part of as address. The Island was originally called Vectis by the Romans, and some old maps do spell the Island with White or Whyte Any way, whatever way you spell it, a good start to staying on the Wight? White?
